“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of armies: all the earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3). The prophet Isaiah experienced the glory of God when he looked up in heaven. Angels can be seen with God. Jacob also saw angels. In his dream he saw them climb up and down a ladder to heaven. Awakening he realizes: “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” Both narrations are deep-seated in church year: At church consecration festival the church interior is compared to the holy place which Jacob experiences as door to heaven. And every time Eucharist is celebrated, Isaiah’s words remind us of his gaze towards heaven where God’s glory blazes and angelic choirs sing.
