Even from their origins, the two great festivals of the Christmas cycle &#8211; the Nativity (25 December) and the Epiphany (6 January) &#8211; are characterised by the interpretation of cosmological light phenomena. But how do these impressive metaphors of light relate to the socio-cultural contexts in which they are embedded?
