Reichenau Artists' Days 2025
As a member of the Art Association of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart or the Community of Christian Artists in Freiburg, you are cordially invited to the “Reichenau Artists’ Days 2025” at the Tagungshaus Kloster Schöntal. However, interested non-members are also welcome to attend the lectures on Friday and Saturday and the performance on Saturday evening.

Invitation to take part in the art competition organised by the Kunstverein der Diözese Rottenburg-Stuttgart e.V.
As part of the ‘Reichenauer Künstler:innentagung 2025’ from 10 to 12 October 2025 at Schöntal Monastery, the Kunstverein der Diözese Rottenburg-Stuttgart cordially invites artists to take part in the art competition on the theme of ‘Body and Soul’.
The body is a place of memory in which the horizons of experience of society are inscribed in their various historical and cultural forms. Socially characterised value systems and memory practices as well as individual experiences become visible on the body – it is a repository and transmitter of cultural knowledge and social and personal identity(ies). The creative design and shaping of one’s own body is one of the central means of communication of our present day: by covering or displaying the body, a self-image is developed, social attributions are rejected or accepted. The body – be it the physical body or its reproduced image – is therefore a medium and means of expression that also plays a constitutive role in Christian visual cultures.

Against the background of sociological, theological and art-historical questions, the Reichenau Artists’ Days 2025 aim to make an interdisciplinary contribution to the contemporary discourse on the body.
The visual arts are the cornerstone of this cultural event.
We welcome entries that take up the theme of ‘Body and Soul’ and encourage all participants to express their personal perspective in their individual style. The competition offers artists the opportunity to present their work in the spacious premises of Schöntal Monastery over a period of six weeks. The award-winning works also serve as a basis for discussion and reflection on the conference theme. The artists benefit from great public visibility in this inspiring environment between art viewing, dialogue and music.

Dance and music performance in the middle of a construction site

In the heavenly realm of the Baroque
The baroque putti that can be found in every church or chapel in Upper Swabia are well-known and popular. But what about the sumptuously clothed bones of the many catacomb saints? The people of the Baroque era always had life and death, earthly existence and the heavenly afterlife in mind.
An excursion to well-known and lesser-known churches and chapels in Upper Swabia aims to explore this in a relaxed atmosphere. Carpe diem, seize the day! The journey leads to: Gutenzell to the former monastery church of St Cosmas and Damian, to Rot an der Rot to the former Brotherhood Church of St Johann, to Illerbachen to the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows and to Berkheim-Bonlanden to the Chapel of the Holy Cross.
The lunch break is planned in Rot an der Rot. There is also the possibility to have lunch at the St. Norbert conference centre. (If desired, please book this when you make your booking).

Projekt Zukunft für die Klöster
Zum Abschluss unserer Erlebniswoche KLOSTERLEBEN laden wir Sie herzlich zum Podiumsgespräch zum Thema Projekt Zukunft für die Klöster am Sonntag, 23. Juni 2024 um 15 Uhr ein.
Als Begegnungsorte von Glauben, Kunst und Wissenschaft waren Klöster über lange Zeit wichtige Impulsgeber für gesellschaftliche und spirituelle Erneuerungen. Heute befinden sich viele Orden in einem Transformationsprozess: Die Zahl der Klostereintritte geht zurück, viele Konvente müssen ihre angestammten Sitze aufgeben oder gar ihre Pforten schließen. Doch viele religiöse Gemeinschaften sehen in dieser Umbruchszeit auch eine Chance für einen Neubeginn. Welche neuen, bisher ungewohnten Wege ergeben sich für die Klöster? Im Gespräch mit Vertreter:innen unterschiedlicher Orden fragen wir danach, welche Rolle Klöster heute spielen und zukünftig spielen können.

Inmitten der Baustelle
Tanz- und Musikperformance mit Martina Gunkel und Yahi Nestor Gahe und dem Dähn Netz Settelmeyer Trio.
Der leere Raum des Museums, das gerade renoviert wird, dient als Inspiration für Klang und Bewegung, für Erneuerung und Heilung. Die Kompositionen des Trios bewegen sich im Spannungsfeld zwischen spirituellem Jazz und extatischer Klangskulptur und bilden den Klangraum für das Tänzerpaar, das einzeln und im Duett das leere Museum als Bühne mit Tanz und Bewegung füllen wird.
